Quail unwrapped.jpeg

PrayeothQuail

I created a series of 35 linoleum prints and sent them to friends and acquaintances during the United States' COVID-19 lockdown in April 2020.  After shipping the prints, I put together a map of where each quail ended up. My hope for the project was to create a sense of connection despite our isolation.

Each print depicted a mother quail and its chick. The mother's wings encircle the chick, protecting it from harm. Included with the print was a short prayer,

"God, I feel alone. I am surrounded by beauty and love and grace, yet I desire so much more. You have blessed me with manna - all that I need to be sustained - but I long for quail - the food of my past enslavement. Remind me of the wings enfolding me. Rip this desire out of my chest."
